Discover the Cramim Program

The Cramim Program is an excellence program for outstanding students, offering a full tuition scholarship to those who meet the entry requirements. It allows top students to create a personalized curriculum from the wide range of courses offered by the Faculty of Jewish Studies. The program combines academic and research challenges with a rich intellectual and social experience, and admission is highly competitive, based on exceptional academic records.

The program, part of the Multidisciplinary Department of Jewish Studies, breaks down traditional boundaries between fields, offering a unique, comprehensive, and content-rich academic path. Courses cover:

  • Bible and Talmud

  • Jewish history

  • Hebrew and other Semitic languages

  • Jewish literature, Yiddish, and Ladino

  • Jewish thought

  • Land of Israel studies and archaeology

  • Jewish art

  • Middle Eastern studies

Students receive close academic guidance, personal advising, and mentorship to design a curriculum that allows them to explore the topics that most interest them.

The program was founded by Prof. Tova Ganzel, who also heads the School of Basic Jewish Studies at Bar-Ilan University. Her research focuses on prophetic literature in the Ancient Near East, temples in the Neo-Babylonian and Persian periods, the reception of biblical criticism since the 18th century, and the role of women in halachic decision-making.

Joining the Cramim community—an exclusive, dynamic group of students—offers an active learning experience with guidance from senior faculty members. Graduates leave the program with broad knowledge, analytical skills, and creative problem-solving abilities that prepare them for any professional or academic path.

The program also offers the option to combine certificate programs, such as teacher certification or Hebrew language accreditation, allowing students to deepen their engagement with Jewish identity and culture while gaining practical professional skills.
